About Us

Perth Pigeon Rescue is a registered not-for-profit organisation run by dedicated volunteers throughout the Perth metropolitan area.

Our team consists of rehabilitators, wildlife volunteers, and a registered veterinary nurse. Brought together to ensure that all pigeons receive the love and care they deserve.

We specialise in the rescue and rehabilitation of injured, sick, and orphaned feral pigeons, while also helping to rehome lost and displaced pet pigeons.

At Perth Pigeon Rescue, our mission is to change the way pigeons are viewed by fostering understanding and appreciation for these remarkable birds. For thousands of years, pigeons have lived alongside humans, most notably as trusted messengers, carrying vital information across great distances long before modern communication.

We are committed to helping pigeons in need by providing care, rescue, and support for injured, sick, and vulnerable birds. Through our work, we aim to inspire compassion and encourage people to see pigeons as the extraordinary creatures they truly are.

We have launched a GoFundMe to help cover medical bills, transport, food, multivitamins, and everything needed to support this massive rescue effort.

Since Tuesday, Perth Pigeon Rescue has safely rehomed 172 pigeons into loving homes, with 24 currently in foster care. We have also collected 25 sick and injured pigeons, and our vet will be attending to assess and treat them. Some may require ongoing medical support.

Any support, big or small, truly makes a difference. We are hoping to have the remaining 24 pigeons in foster care placed by Monday so we can return and bring more to safety 🥰

Here is some footage from the massive rescue of over 200 pigeons yesterday in W.A’s Wheatbelt. We were on the road from 6:30am and didn’t get back home till midnight. We are exhausted, but grateful to have found homes for so many pigeons and the other suprise animals. We aren’t done, there are still hundreds left behind. If you’d like to adopt some pigeons or donate towards our travel and medication let us know. Donations of lice spray, wormer, medications, pigeon food, fuel vouchers and puppy pads are very much appreciated right now 🙏 Please be patient while we sort through the birds and assess them, as well as transport them to their new homes and respond to all our messages. Perth Pigeon Rescue needs urgent community support for a very large rescue in the WA Wheatbelt, with over 500 pigeons are abandoned at a rural property. They are currently being fed and watered daily, but they urgently need to be moved into safe homes. We will be treating them for illnesses and injuries, but this rescue will take significant time, coordination and resources.

We are asking for help with:
- Transport
- Foster homes and long-term carers
- Quarantine space
- Adoptions
- Donations of medication, food, fuel, used or new cages and aviaries
- Help contacting and coordinating with other bird or animal rescues.

If you have space and are willing to care for pigeons, even temporarily, please reach out.
If you have an old cage or aviary you no longer need, we would be very grateful.
If you are connected with other rescues and can help spread the word or coordinate support, please let us know.

Due to the scale of this rescue, we will be reducing our regular intake of new pigeons until as many birds from this property are saved.

Please still reach out to us if you need urgent help, so we can give you advice and direct you in the right place.

Our first visit to collect birds will be on Monday, and we will provide updates as the rescue progresses.

Adopted.Maple and Lulu are a bonded pair who are happiest together. Lulu is the confident, one who is always the first to investigate what’s going on. Maple is his softer partner, a little shy and gentle.

Even though they’re very different, they balance each other well and clearly find comfort in one another’s company. They’d be best suited to a safe aviary where they can stay together.

If you’re looking for a pair with their own sweet dynamic and plenty of personality, Maple and Lulu might just be the perfect match.

Assisted rehoming for Abe 💕

Hello all, I’m looking to rehome my wonderful, wonderful pigeon, Abe. She’ll be 2 years old in February, and she is an absolute light! I got her at 3 months old, where she was living with a flock of fellow racing birds. She’s a really intelligent and well behaved lady and she loves to be in the company of people. She’s really been more than I could ever ask for, unfortunately I have a very busy year coming up and chronic health conditions, and as much as it saddens me, it’s more important that she get the care and attention she needs.

It’s important that I find a good home for her, not in a racing flock or a breeding flock, but to a forever home with other pigeons and owners who will treat her as a valued pet. I’m not interested in her going to a home without other pigeons, and I would prefer she went to an aviary where she can experience more of the world, as she has lived inside for most of her life.

Pollock is a gentle, curious, quiet boy who enjoys calm human company and watching daily activities from nearby. He perks up to music, happily preens while you relax together, and is very seed motivated. While not hand-tame and protective of his personal space, he is not aggressive and communicates boundaries politely. He enjoys out-of-cage time, prefers high perches, and is fascinated by other birds, making him suited to an aviary or a home with feathered friends. He would thrive with a patient adopter who respects his independence and lets him socialize on his own terms.

December Monthly Review 🎄
What a huge month for the Perth Pigeon Rescue team! We responded to a high number of rescues, including several pigeons who required amputations in order to survive. Thanks to timely intervention and dedicated veterinary care, these birds were given the chance at life they deserved.

December by the numbers:

- Birds currently available for adoption or foster: 9

All veterinary costs are covered by our volunteers, so contribution towards these expenses makes a real difference and allows us to continue helping pigeons in need.

Adopted.This beautiful girl is Sandy, a very vocal girl who loves nothing more than to sit in the sun.

Shes easy-going and gentle with other birds, not caring for rivalries or fights and even befriending the other foster pigeon within seconds of meeting her.
She is however a bit unsure of people and will let you know with a whole lot of honking in your direction. But with extra patience and food, it’s very possible to win her over.

This girl would be best suited to an aviary with plenty of space to fly, plenty of company and a good sunny spot to take a nap!

Adopted. Dobby is the sweetest, big-eyed little pigeon you’ll ever meet.

This gentle natured girl with a big personality (and very large eyes) came to us covered in lice and with a little limp from an old injury. Despite her limp she’s a strong flyer and doesnt have any trouble moving about like any other bird.
She gets along well with other pigeons and would do best with some friends and plenty of space to fly.
She may be shy around people at first but with a bit of attention she’ll be after you for seeds in no time.

Zazu and Jatz are a bonded pair who have been through a lot and recovered beautifully together, supporting each other every step of the way.

Zazu came into care after a predator attack left her with a severe open wing fracture and part of her wing missing. She received immediate care, and underwent a wing amputation to remove the necrotic bone and tissue. Zazu has healed beautifully and adapted well to life as a flightless pigeon.

Jatz arrived with a badly broken toe that would not have healed on its own and would have caused long-term pain if it wasn’t removed. He has recovered well and moves comfortably with a missing toe.

Together, they are settled, gentle pigeons who would be best suited to indoor living or a flightless-friendly aviary. Please message us if you are interested in taking on this beautiful couple, giving them the second chance at life they deserve ❤️

November became busier as interest in Perth Pigeon Rescue grew, more members of the public reached out for help. Our small team of dedicated pigeon lovers managed:

• 19 pigeon rescues
• 13 stringfoot pigeons helped
• 7 adoptions
• 8 assisted rehomings

We currently have 5 birds available for adoption, including Eevee!

Our vet expenses for the month totalled $1,674, paid out of our volunteers’ own pockets to cover urgent surgeries and lifesaving care ❤️‍🩹

Thank you to everyone who has supported us so far. This is only the beginning. We will continue sharing monthly reviews to keep you updated on our journey and the pigeons we help!

Adopted.Perth Pigeon Rescue has two adorable white pigeons available for adoption, Sandy and Dobby. They are friends, but aren’t bonded, so can either go together or seperately to their forever home. If you have an avairy and would like to add one or two beautiful suspected females, please send us a message 😊

Eevee is a Turkish Tumbler who came into care underweight, and with some supportive care, good food, and a safe place to rest, she has recovered. She’s still a shy little soul, but she doesn’t mind being around people and settles well once she feels safe.

Eevee would be suited to either indoor living or a calm outdoor aviary with gentle companions.
She may be quiet, but she has a soft personality that grows on you quickly. Eevee is ready for someone who can offer kindness and a safe place to call home

Theia came to Perth Pigeon Rescue over a month ago, scalped by a crow and in pretty bad shape. She underwent surgery to close up the multiple wounds and rocked her bonnet while in recovery. She is now adopted into the home of one of our carers and thriving! What a little fighter 🥰

Every bird that comes through our care has their own story. Some arrive injured, some sick or lost, and some just needing time to recover.
These two came to us from completely different places, but during their short time in care, have fallen in love with each other. 🥰

Today, these two have a new lease on life and are enjoying each other’s company in the sunshine in our new aviary. The perfect place to heal.
Moments like this remind us why we do what we do!

ADOPTED This dynamic duo was found and handed in together with a vet prognosis of nothing but signs of long-gone lice and a few ruffled feathers!

Robin is a gentle, tame little angel who takes very little to win over. She’ll be the first to fly over when you open the door, happily sitting herself anywhere from your arm to your head.
Easy to handle and accepts a good scratch. She’s as docile as they come and makes for a wonderful little friend.

Big boy Batman is the sassy one.
While not opposed to hanging out on your arm if his wife is there, he won’t hesitate to boss you around and let you know your place!

While feisty from time to time, this beautiful man is very gentle with Robin, and the pair should be kept together either indoors or in an aviary environment.

ADOPTED Pingu is a timid yet sweet, and undeniably gorgeous Australian saddleback. Shy to start with, she warms up quickly with patience and plenty of seeds!
She was found alongside a coupled pair of pigeons and has had a bit of hard time being bullied by them, she would love a chance to thrive in a new environment.

She can be a little fiesty and unafraid to let you know if you’re crossing a boundary, but when she’s comfortable, she’s very happy to sit herself on your lap or arm (and may even accept a little scratch!).

We can see Pingu preferably enjoying an aviary life alongside other pigeons or possibly life as an indoor companion with plenty of space to fly and roam.

ADOPTED -Valerie is a calm, gentle pigeon who has already been through so much. Her journey began on a property where she was found seeking out humans for help.

When she arrived, she had trauma to one eye, leaving her blind in that eye, and an old injury that left her unable to fly.

Since coming into care, Valerie has shown us she’s happiest indoors, where she can relax and simply be near people. Often content to sit calmly on your arm, soaking up gentle attention.

Now, she’s ready for her forever home. If you’re seeking a unique and loving addition to your family, Valerie is ready and waiting to share her unassuming love and companionship with you.
